2008 Photos

Home Up

The 2008 Buffalo roadtrip took place on the weekend of December 26-29.   Due to the close proximity of the trip to Christmas, three of the guys from last year (Dwayne, Josh and Jason) couldn't join us.  Those who attended this year were veterans, Steve B., Bruce M., Bill M., Chris V. and Brett R.  Our old friend, Tom M.,  rejoined the group along with newbies Ray M. and Sean F.
This day had to be one of the most bizarre of all the days we've spent at The Ralph.  When we woke up on Sunday morning, it was 65 degrees and a little breezy.  By the time we left for the game an hour later, it was about 45 degrees (on it's way down to 35) and windy.  Now, when I say in was windy I mean it was windy.  For most of the remainder of the day, there were sustained winds of 35-40 mph with gusts as high as 70-75 mph.  The Patriots persevered through all of it as they won at The Ralph yet again, 13-0.  On to the photos!

Eight roadtrippers at The Ralph!

Here are the 2008 Pats roadtrippers (from the left).  They are Bill M., Brett R.,
Ray M., Bruce M., Chris V., Steve B., Tom M. and Sean F.

Roadee likes to help.

"Yes, Roadee, we'll need the funnel in Buffalo."

Bruce and Roadee pack his car the night before the trip.

Push the button down, it comes up brown. Yeah, TOAST!

On Friday morning Roadee took Bruce and Tom out to breakfast before driving
to Framingham to meet up with Ray, Bill and Steve at the car rental place.

Buffalo trip #8 is about to commence.

Here are Bruce, Bill, Tom and Ray as they head out on the road to Buffalo.

Sorry, Steve. Maybe next year. =o(

Steve had to stay home due to circumstances beyond his control.
We took this picture of him before we left.

Comfy reclining bucket seats!

Bruce relaxes in the reclining front seat.

I'm driving! My rules!

Tom handles the driving chores.

Bill in the van.

Bill hangs in one of the back seats during the drive.

Nice self-mugshot, Ray.

And here's Ray!

The essence of Esteban.

Oh, and here's Steve after all!  Yay!

"I really hope the Jets win."

This Jets bear's fate rests on how the Jets team
performs on Sunday against the Fins.

Roadee's never seen snow before.

Roadee is concerned about the weather as snow
starts to fall on the New York thruway.

Brett's hangin' at The Warehouse.

When we arrived safely in Buffalo, Brett was there to greet us.
He flew in earlier in the day.

The Roadee Effect.

Roadee makes friends very easily.

...slurrrrrrrp...

Roadee enjoys a beverage during the Friday
evening festivities at The Warehouse.

I've heard buffalo burgers are pretty good.

They made us drink out of these nasty glasses.

She's actually a Bills fan.

Our server enjoyed her time with Roadee as well.

Do those say, "Sasquatch?"

On Saturday we had to pick up Chris V. at the airport.

Dan and Ray say, "Hey!"

This is local Boston sports guy, Dan Roche, shaking hands with Ray.

The arrival.

Yes, that's Chris AND Steve coming down the stairs.  Steve's circumstances changed
and he was able to meet us for the weekend after all.

The Boston sports contingent with Chris and Steve.

Here are Chris (far right) and Steve (front) with (l-r) Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe,
Shalise Manza Young of the Providence Journal, WBZ Cameraman Brian
and WBZ sports guy Dan Roche in this fuzzy cell phone picture.

Not all images in this image have been authenticated.

Sightings of Sasquatch in the northeast have been increasing in recent years.

Roadee is a seasoned Sasquatch hunter.

Roadee reviews the Sasquatch sighting evidence for himself.

There are more and more sightings reported every day.

Here's Roadee in a press photo.

Important warning here.

Careful driving at night.

Recognized by his lumbering gait.

These things can completely wreck your car if you hit them.

"What are you doin', snapper-head?"

Roadee poses with a friend in the motel room.

"Yeah, thanks for takin' that one, Brett."

Bruce waits for everyone to get aboard.

Tom displays the intensity of Mike Singletary.

Tom concentrates on the road.

$20 in $2 bills is still $20.

That doesn't look very comfortable.

On the way back to the motel from Canada, Bruce fell between the seats.

Bill's doing the sleepy head bob.

Bill nods off again.

Steve's really just looking for the GPS device.

All I'm going to say about this is that beer can make people do strange things.

That's a little better.

Bruce naps on the ride back to the motel on Saturday evening.

"I must do something to someone right now!"

Bill is plotting evil.

I will rip your lungs out!

Bruce defends himself against an unprovoked attack by Brett.

The old pull-the-jacket-over-the-head trick.

Bill is seen here teaming up with Brett.

Santa Ray!

What's going on back there?

I'd say this is flagrant assault going on right there.

Bill and Brett were afraid to fight Bruce man to man.

Bill doesn't know when he's defeated.

Bruce is too quick for them as he slips out of his coat.

That's not a boat and that's not a lake.

Chris tries to flag down a passing boat.

Rest stop.

What is going on here?

Bill after doing a "mud" angel.

Bill slipped in the mud.  Whoops!

Bruce is looking for the "mute Bill" button.

Bruce checks for messages before turning in for the night.  Game day tomorrow!

Brett tries to get Bruce into a compromising position.

The next morning Brett thought Bruce's red long-underwear
was worth photographing not once...

It's just red long-underwear.

...not twice...

Jason Vorhees the Patriots fan?

...but three times!  The boxers are just for luck.

Ray's thinking, "This wind sucks!"

Bill, Sean and Ray try to stay out of the wind in the parking lot at The Ralph.

Bruce is thinking, "This wind sucks!"

Bruce cooks up some delicious cow, chicken and pork.
We are equal opportunity carnivores.

Bruce is still thinking, "This wind sucks!"

The Unabomber joined us for our 2008 tailgate party at The Ralph.
Actually, that's just Bruce trying to fight off the wind.

Everybody in this picture is thinking, "This wind sucks!"

These concrete kiosks provided some relief from the biting breeze.

The thinking has not changed.

I did mention it was windy, right?

Roadee is thinking, "This wind sucks!"

Roadee didn't seem to let the wind bother him.

The world is our urinal.

Needs must be met.

The cops helped wrap up the window.

The wind gusts were picking up small rocks and blowing them with enough force
to break car windows.  Several port-a-potties got knocked over as well.

"Yeah, and remember that game that was really windy? That was awesome."

Bruce and Steve share a laugh at someone's expense.

Burn, baby, burn.

This picture shows the force of the wind.  The flames are going sideways.

Lots of Dr. McG left.

Kenny the Bills fan says a quick hello to the good Dr. McGillicuddy.

Bottoms up!

Actually, it was more of a conversation than a quick hello.

What's this stuff?

The doctor is making his rounds.

Maybe just a little.

The stuff does make you feel all warm inside.

Mmmmmm....minty goodness.

Another Canadian Bills fan meets the doctor.

The fans were making enough noise to wake the dead.

This is the Sheldon family cemetery just ouside the gates of Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Generic game photo.

Game shot.

A little breezy for skirts, eh ladies?

Although the Jills started out in these Santa suits, the wind
would demand a wardrobe change in short order.

Ed says, "I'm old enough to remember the last time the Bills had a winning season."

Ed the Bills fan remembered us from previous years.  Ed
is yet another example of a cool Bills fan.

Ed the Bills fan.

Here's Ed up close.

Bill and Ed exchange lies.

Bill and Ed share some football talk.

Half-group shot.

Bill, Steve, Bruce and Sean.

Other half-group shot.

Ray, Chris, Brett, Tom and Bill.

Anyone have a level?

You may notice that the goalpost is a little crooked.  That's a result of the wind.
They had to continually adjust it during the game.

"Rah rah rah..."

The Jills changed into these unflattering parkas not long after the game started.

"...sis boom bah!"

Yeah, yeah.  Where are those Santa suits?

The crunch of the pads.

More game action.

The goalpost is level now.

Chris, Brett and Ed pause for a photo op.

XmasCard1.jpg (58247 bytes)

Yes, that's Scott Norwood missing wide right in Super Bowl XXV against the Giants.

XmasCard2.jpg (57424 bytes)

These holiday cards need an explanation.  We were anticipating a lot of 18-1 trash talk from the Bills fans given the Patriots finish at the end of the 2007 season.  Brett thought of making up these Christmas cards to give out to those fans who might give us grief.  Surprisingly, we never really got much of a hard time so we didn't give too many of them out to the Bills fans.  But...since we had them, we gave a few out anyway.

Nice head, dude.

This guy wanted to beat Brett up because Brett picked on him for wearing a helmet.

Neatly bundled against the breeze.

Tom and Bruce give the camera a sideways glance.

Mmmm...life-giving sunlight.

The sun came out for a minute.  We thought we should capture the moment.

Field shot.

Here's a good view of how we see the game every year.

This probably isn't going to end well.

This poor unfortunate young lady had one or five too many.

She's one hurtin' puppy.

Looking forward to evacuation.

Blanket is good.

Some nice soul gave her a blanket.

Gives new meaning to "The Ralph", doesn't it?

The same nice soul took the blanket back after evacuation was complete.

Not many fans left.

Steve and Sean near games end.  This photo was taken by Sean
using his freakishly long (almost Sasquatch-like) arms.

The sun went away as quickly as it showed up.

Steve and Sean again with mostly just Patriots fans still in the building.

Yet another spooky shot of The Ralph.

A parting shot of The Ralph.

The jokester is not so easily identifiable this time.

Wasn't there an almost exact same picture taken last year?

...must...stay...awake...

Bill's fading fast.

G'night!

And he's out.

I think it's balogna and cheese!

The guys in the car next to us gave us half a sammich!

We call this the JFK position.

Back and to the left...back and to the left...back and to the left...

Bill is awake enough for food now.

We renewed the tailgating festivities back at the motel.

All kinds of crap caught under the car.

When Sean moved his car this pile of debris left
behind by the day's weather was revealed.

We were watching the end of the very disappointing Jets game.

Bill and Bruce made a final (for this year) visit to The Warehouse.   It should be noted that just two days after returning home from Buffalo, linebacker Jerod Mayo was named
AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year.  The guy is a monster!

Ante up, boys!

Texas Hold 'Em is underway.

Final night in Buffalo.

I see the Doctor made it home from the stadium parking lot.

Nice head, dude!

Chris is suffering from the dreaded "hat-head".

Bruce and Bill don't play cards.

Bill stepped into Josh's role of falling asleep at odd times this year.

Card game.

Brett, Tom, Steve and Chris smile for Ray (behind the flash in the mirror).

Almost defeated.

Brett and Tom are almost out.

Chris won it all. Again.

Steve is almost out.  Chris is NOT almost out.

Bill, get out of my bed or I will kill you.

Our last photo from Buffalo 2008 has Bruce and Bill
pretty whooped from a long, strange day.
