2009 Bills Photos

Home Up

The 2009 Buffalo Road Trip took place on the weekend of December 18-21 when we drove to Buffalo in the Short Bus for the very first time.  The Patriots held true to form as they beat the Bills 17-10.  We met a lot of new friends this year as you'll see going through the photos below.  This is our most documented Buffalo trip yet with over 215 photos.  We hope you enjoy them!

Brett stands idly by as Steve does all the work.

The Short Bus is being packed at the meeting place in Waltham, Mass.

Never needed it. But if we hadn't had it, we would have needed it.

We picked up this spare tire just before the trip.
We didn't need it.

Hey, can you guys do something, please? It's cold up here.

Steve continues loading the roof rack.

The Short Bus stands at the ready.

The Short Bus is eager to start the trip.

Lesson learned. We never used anything in this cooler during the trip.

Organization is key as space is limited.

What did I just sit on?

Brett's all ready to go!

Chris takes an iPhone photo.

Chris takes some photos of his own.

It's like a photo paradox.

In fact, this is the picture that Chris took.  You can see me on the right
checking the above photo that I just took of him taking the photo.

Steve is still working.

It was very cold on the morning we left.

1000 bottles of beer on the wall...

Finally on the road.

999 bottles of beer on the wall...999 bottles of beer!

Bill is driving the first leg of the journey.

I'm an excellent cup-holder installer.

Always working, Steve installs a new cup holder.  The new
one was broken by the end of the trip.

Obeying the law.

We stopped in the right place, I guess.

Of course, we claim to NOT be a bus whenever it saves us money.

It says so right here.

Chris could break his glasses if he's not careful.

Chris is catching some Z's.

Bruce is listening to Pink Floyd. What else?

Bruce, too.

Dunno what Vinman was listening to.

Ray submits to the peer pressure.

Chris is awake.

I think Ray is sleep walking or something.

Steve's got some tunes going on, too.

I'll leave it to your imagination as to what's going on here.

Ray, where are your hands?

Whatever it is, Ray's enjoying it.

Is that a grey hoodie?

Steve enjoys the ride from the co-pilot's seat.

Where's Sasquatch?

Sean plays navigator while Bill drives.

Is that really just water in that bottle?

Chris thinks something is pretty funny.

Ray runs interference as Chris visits with the Doctor.

Welcome back to the waking world, Ray!

Dr. McGillicuddy, that is!

Now we're all awake!

Maybe he just misses his binky.

Brett looks a little sad now.  Maybe he's homesick.

It's dark outside!

We drove from daylight into darkness.

This is a classic example of organized disorganization.

Almost to the motel now.

Made it to the motel!

Brett rests after a long ride.

Cruddy Econolodge room.

The computers are set up.  Ray checks his email.

Computer and TV all ready to go.

One of these day's we're all going to spring for nice hotel.

"And another thing, you guys. No more wedgies! I'm getting chaffed!"

Dinner at The Warehouse after our arrival in Buffalo.

Who's the fat man?

Santa Claus arrived to ask trivia questions and
pelt innocent diners with t-shirts.

Waiting for food.

Chris and Bill enjoy the conversation.

Smile, damn it!

Bill and Bruce stop long enough to smile for the camera.

There we go! Smiles and a thumbs up!

Brett, Steve and Ray.  Look at the size of that Guinness!

Back to no smiles.

Chris and Bill from Ray's angle.

What's not so smile about here?

Here's Ray and Sean with our Drew Barrymore look-alike server.

It's a comfortable place.

The Warehouse is rockin'.

It's not too loud either.

Another of the dinner crowd at The Warehouse.

Mmmmmmmmmm...pizza....

Here's a shot of dinner from the "eye in the sky".

Some kind of burrito or something.

And another from up top.

Gimme back my beer, damn you!

Back at the motel, it's almost time to play cards.

Who's roll is it?

Actually, it's a dice game going on right now.

Take that, Jeter lover!

Ray is such a bully beating up on a poor, helpless Yankees fan.

When you can snatch the beer from the table, it will be time for you to go get more beer.

Now the card game is underway.  Sean deals.

Sean tries to catch imaginary flies.

I think it was a game of Texas hold 'em.

We invited this complete stranger into our room.

This is Tom.  We met him outside the room and invited him in for a beer.

Steve laughs at Bills suggestion of a Spin-The-Bottle game.

The card game continues.

Chris sees a vision of the Virgin Mary on the motel wall.

Ray, Bruce and Chris.  Bruce is chillin' because he doesn't play cards.

"Wait, the red chips are worth how much?"

Still chillin' and managing the poker chip case.

"...and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and fruit-bats and orangutans..."

Here's Bill reading from the Bible.  We always try
to get some "churchin' up" on our Buffalo trips.

Bat in the Bat Cave?

Bill ponders creationism vs. evolution.

Actually, Bruce is not sleeping at all. He's just resting.

Bruce is dreaming of a Buffalo beat-down by the Patriots on Sunday.

That's what happens when athiests read the bible!

Ray broke the drawer in the motel room table.  Vandal!

What's the red chip worth again?

Here's Ray still trying to fix the drawer.

12 hours and Ray's deoderant still smells like sunshine and rainbows!

Having given up on the drawer, Ray and Chris
get back to what's important...poker.

"Anyone have a Wet One?"

Ray says, "I just pooped my pants!"

Really classy, Yankees fan.

Brett reads and practices "Insults for Dummies" on-line.

"I'm telling you, with enough wind, those flagpole holders on the roof rack are gonna break."

Steve tries to make a point about something.

Ray tries to squish Governor Jesse Ventura's head.

Ray's hammin' it up.

Bruce is in the lead for the "Most likely to be f*cked with while sleeping." award.

Sleepy Sleepinsteen is still at it.

Spoon me or get out!

Ray seems to be unaware of the dangers of waking Bruce from a sound sleep.

Saturday, December 19, 2009

The pancake people have their priorities all screwed up.

On Saturday morning we went to the local IHOP for breakfast.

Indesputable proof that finally settles the argument over who stole Steve's bacon!

We consumed 18 pots of coffee.

SNORT!

Ray's trying to laugh without blowing coffee out of his nose.

*munch munch munch*

Steve and Brett dig in.

What's with the upward angle on this one? Did someone take it from their belly button?

Bill (again) looks like he's up to something.

Bruce gives Sean a sideways glance.

Sean gives the camera a sideways glance.

The Short Bus is really loud right now.

Looking for an auto parts store.

The repair never really worked.

We found one!  The exhaust pipe broke during the ride up
to Buffalo.  This was an attempt to fix it.

Smokin' in the Short Bus!

Coming back from Canada on Saturday evening.

Full speed ahead!

Steve pilots the Short Bus in foreign waters.

Be vewy vewy qwiet. I'm dwiving the Short Bus.

Concentration when driving the Short Bus is very important.

Steve was yelling, "Sit down and be quiet back there!"

Brett can't seem to sit still.

Bill looks like he's excited about something.

Bill enjoys the ride.

"I know where I'm NOT putting the cigars."

Brett and Chris discuss how to smuggle cigars across over the border.

Room 146

This is my room number at the Econolodge.

Nite-nite, Short Bus.

The Short Bus rests before the big day tomorrow.

num-num-num-num

After hours at The Warehouse, Ray enjoys some wings.

Cheers!

I don't know who this young lady is but I like her style!

I can drink with the big boys!

That's a big glass of beer for a little lady!

They were staying in the room directly above us.

Laura and Shannon hang with us on gameday eve.

The Breathright strip was to cut down on my snoring. I considered it a public service.

I have no idea what Bruce is looking at.

Why don't I remember this?

Something interesting, I'm sure.

Milling about the Short Bus.

Gameday.  The Short Bus is being readied.

More milling about.

Loading food and supplies into the Short Bus.

Hanging around waiting for someone to take a picture of all seven of us.

Attempting a group photo here.

Only six here so far.

Still trying to get all seven of us in to the picture.

Where the F is Bill?

Bill is still missing.

BILL!?

Still waiting...

Should we just give up on this group shot?

Kicking around and waiting still.

Losing people now.

dum de dum...

FINALLY!

There's all of us!

And one more.

And that's what we ended up with.

Ready to leave for the game now.

And a fuzzy one.

They would hang out with us during the tailgate party, too.

Finally on our way to the game.  Laura and Shannon
hitched a ride with us to the stadium.

Zipping out of the motel lot...you can see the motel outside the windows.

Sean and Bruce.

Stealing a page from Steve's book.

Chris with the thumbs-up from the captain's chair.

That's our old friend, Kenny the Bill's fan on the far right.

Arriving at the parking lot.

Food was plentiful.

Brett's buddy Mike from Buffalo, shown here with Chris, joined us for the game.

Three amigos!

Brett, Ray and Chris.

Doesn't this just look like a sucker punch?

I'm beginning to think that Brett and Ray have some kind
of animosity towards each other going on.

Sean, you have one of those vibrating cell phones in your pocket or what?

Sean is obviously having a really good time.

Yes, the hose has to be connected to the grill.

Bill checks the grill.

Until this year, we'd have been driving one of them white vans, too.

This is Paul.  He was tailgating alone so we invited
him to join us.  He's taking a picture of...

Some of the regulars we see every year.

...these guys.

Looks warm, don't he?

Chris gets up close and personal.

That's two big dudes.

Here's Chris and Sean.

Paul made a modest donation to the Short Bus fund. That was nice of him.

Here's Paul again.

Everybody's getting a photo with Paul.

Paul, Chris and Sean.

Brett, too!

Paul and Brett.

WASSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP!

Brett and Ray.  And they're not trying to punch each other.

Thanks for cooking, Ray-Ray!

Ray manned the grill for a good portion of the day.

It's pretty cool but our Short Bus is better.

This is another short bus we saw in the parking lot.

They didn't do anything to the interior of theirs. It's just an old bus inside.

It's the Buffalo Bills Zubus!

Looks like all kinds of doom and gloom here.

It looks pretty dark but it wasn't.  It was a beautiful day for football.

Short Bus from a distance.

I was trying to get a good shot of the Short Bus
with the Stadium in the background.

I guess that's a little better.

Eh...still not so good.

Eh...

Still no.

That's Brett on the right.

Can't see much of the stadium here.

It was a beautiful fall day.

More tailgating.

It was breezy but not windy.

Old Glory and Flying Elvis tower above the Short Bus.

I loaned her my Stanley Morgan jersey.

Laura smiles for the camera.

Pat and Flying Elvis represented here.

Here's Susan.  She was also staying in our motel with her son, Hunter.

Hunter represents well, too!

Speaking of Hunter, here he is.

That's what the Bills usually feel like after the Patriots leave town.

I have no idea who this guy is but my guess is that he has brain damage.

Truth, justice and the Ray-Ray way!

Wait a minute, how come we've never seen Ray and
Superman in the same room together?

Susan stands by with camera in hand waiting for a photo op.

Susan stands by with camera in hand waiting for a photo op.

Laura enjoys the tailgate feast.

Laura enjoys the tailgate feast.

Maybe he's pointing at that dead Jets bear hanging off the mirror.

Mike is pointing out what a great job we did on the Short bus.

That's a big bottle of Baileys.

Laura is still feasting.

Are those the three Vinces?

A random photo of tailgating going on.

Organization is key.

An attempt at a tailgating group photo.

Ray tries to get everybody in line.

Ray looks like he's trying to play choir director only nobody's singing.

Finally!

There's a good one.

A little closer now.

And another good one.

Just so long as it's not the Electric Slide or something.

Susan starting doing some kind of tribal dance.

Hunter wisely keeps his distance from Ray.

Here's one last attempt at a group tailgate photo.

The Short Bus at The Ralph.

People are heading into the game now.

We got a lot of compliments on the Short Bus, just on on our team.

Fans pass by the Short Bus.

We wanted most of the tailgating crowd to be out of the parking lot before we left. Just in case.

Steve and I decided it would be best to wait until after kickoff to go in.

Most of the troublemakers have gone into the game now.

Steve and Bruce stand guard by the Short Bus as the the game starts.

A few more fans head into the game.

It's not that we don't trust Bills fans in general but, realistically,
there are jerks in every crowd.  Better safe than sorry.

They liked the Short Bus. They didn't like us.

Most of the people that passed by, while not expressing a lot of love for the
Patriots, did show a lot of respect for the work we put into the Short Bus.

It's Jim Kelly's Club 12!

Steve and I are finally on our way in.

This is Steve's Sasquatch imitation.

Steve, being a goof, in mid-stride.

Inside The Ralph.

Inside The Ralph.

All kinda dark, and cramped. Just like the old barn in Foxboro.

It kind of reminds me of the old Shaeffer/Sullivan/Foxboro Stadium.

The Bills are driving.

The Bills are driving.

Where's that nice strong breeze when we need it, huh?

The Jills are in the holiday spirit!

Smiles, everyone, smiles!

Smile, ladies!

Not sure what they were yammerin' on about.

These 6th row seats definitely have their advantages.

F'n BRR! What is wrong with you, man?

This camera guy is wearing shorts with the temperature in the 20s.
We New Englanders take pride in our hardiness in cold
weather but I gotta tip my hat to this guy.

FLAG DOWN!

Here's a game action photo.

Good crowd at Gillette West today.

Bruce seems to be having a good time flanked by Bill, Steve and Mike.

Less smiles.

Looking a little more serious now, he's probably just now
realizing that he's standing next to Mike, a Bills fan.

Those goggles don't go with her pretty blue eyes.

These nice folks were sitting behind us.

She was just there. Someone told her to get in the picture.

I have no idea who she is.  This is a photo of convenience.

Field level.

Ditched the chick.  Here's what I went down there for.

People are starting to leave.

Chris took this one on his cell phone.

Ed called me on January 10, 2010, just after the Patriots were eliminated from the playoffs by the Baltimore Ravens, just to mock us!

Sean, Steve and Bruce stand with Ed the Bills fan.  Ed's been sitting in
front of us in our end zone seats for a number of years now.

Of course, Ed's Bills haven't sniffed the playoffs in years so...

Steve and Ed share a laugh.

Actually, there were Patriots fans everywhere.

Five little Patriots fans all in a row.

Tom Brady audibles to his offense.

More game action for you here.

Why are the Jills way over there?

Tom Brady barks out signals.

Maybe it was something good.

I don't remember what happened on this play.

Just another goofy photo.

Mike, Brett and Ed with two guys I don't know.

Everybody looks so happy!

Here's Ed, a guy I don't know and Chris.

Fred rocks!

Fred Smerlas on the Wall of Fame.

O.J. is currently vacationing with the Nevada Department of Corrections.

And here's DMSB on the Wall of Fame.  Oh, what does DMSB stand for?
Why, it's Double-Murdering Scum Bag!

Click here to see where O.J. lives now!

Doesn't this dude look a little like Gollum from the Lord of the Rings movies? "Yes, my Precious. It's crunchy and it's corny and it's poppy, my Precious!"

NUMNUMNUMNUM!

Ray's face looks like he just got punched.

"Who wants to fight a Pats fan?"

These two guys are together a lot.

Chris and Ray in the smoking section.

What happened to the Santa suits!?

The Jills have changed into these very unflattering jackets and pants.

Thanks for nuthin'!

Yeah, move along.  Nothing to look at now anyway.

Well, that's somethin'.

Okay, maybe that was a little harsh.

Steve took this with his right hand.

Steve and Sean after the Patriots have secured yet another road win at Gillette West.

Sean took this with his left hand.

Sean has again taken this photo with his long, sasquatch arms.

At least their colors are red, white and blue. They're doing something right.

Fans exit The Ralph.

What's Ray got under his coat?

Chris arrives back at the Short Bus following the game.

We had a good time with Laura and Shannon, too!

Looks like Laura and Shannon had a good time.

Is Susan laughing or...nevermind.

Hunter and Susan made it back alive.

Sean found himself a chicken leg or something.

Post game munching.

Don't stick it out unless you plan to use it, Ray!

Getting ready to pack up another day at The Ralph.

That's an NFL tin full of Bonnie's famous brownies.

Bruce has himself a nappy while waiting to leave the parking lot.

Brownies. Not cookies.

He never naps without his NFL cookie tin nearby.

Why is Ray napping with bags of chips?

Ray catches the nappy fever.

"Leave me alone!"

Ray tries to hide from the camera's glare.

Everybody's catchin' it!

Seems it's contagious.

Hunter wears his seat belt. Smart boy.

Hunter rode back to the motel with us.  He
really wanted to ride in the Short Bus.

Steve gives the auto-pilot a try.

Steve usually drives with his eyes open.

Monday, December 21, 2009

And we hadn't even had our coffee yet.

We again stopped for breakfast at the local IHOP before
leaving Buffalo for the long ride home to Boston.

The Short Bus with The Ralph in the background.

After breakfast and before starting out, we stopped for
a couple of more Short Bus photos at the stadium.

The Short Bus with The Ralph in the background.

We couldn't really get close enough to get anything better than these.

Home again.

Arriving back in Waltham, we began the process of unloading the Short Bus.

Back in the Boston area.

Chris gathers his things and loads them into his car.

The long ride home is finally over.

Ray hops out of the back of the Short Bus with one of his bags.

The end of the line.

Steve pauses to reflect on another fun road trip to Buffalo.

It was a great maiden voyage (road trip) for the Short Bus.

Our final photo from the 2009 Buffalo road trip.  From here, Bruce
drove the Short Bus home and went to bed. It's back to work tomorrow.

See you in 2010!

Home Up
